LEUCINE
In addition to the total amount of proteins, the amino acid composition of a protein is also important. Amino acids are the building blocks for muscle tissue. The amino acid composition of a protein determines the quality of the protein. A protein is called high-quality if the amino acid composition can provide a relatively large muscle build-up.

Research shows that the amount of leucine determines the quality of a protein to an important extent: the more leucine, the stronger the muscle building. Leucine releases the main stimulus necessary for muscle building. That’s why sufficient leucine must be taken to optimally stimulate muscle building. Recent research shows that administration of leucine at a dose of 1.2 to 6 grams per day improves the amount of muscle mass in the elderly and also has no side effects.

VITAMIN D
Elderly people with a vitamin D deficiency have less muscle strength and thus may struggle with even the simplest of activities. Vitamin D supports normal muscle function. Furthermore, sufficient vitamin D in the body also ensures a better sense of balance, which reduces the risk of falling.
